Elijah Abides At Cherith Brook
By: Timothy E. Davis
"Then the Lord said to Elijah, go to the east and hide by Cherith Brook at a place east of where it enters the Jordan River. Drink from the brook and eat what the ravens bring you, for I have commanded them to feed you. " I Kings 17:2-4 (TLB)
King Ahab was the most wicked King in the entire history of Israel. His wicked reign lasted twenty two years. He married an Idol worshipper, Jezebel, as his wife. He then began worshipping Baal.
He built a temple for Baal in Samaria. Then he made more idols, making God very angry. Jehovah sent a punishment upon King Ahab through the Prophet Elijah. God told Elijah to tell Ahab there would be no rain for three years in all the land.
Jehovah always takes care of those who try to walk in His will. He knew that the drought would leave no food or drink even for His prophet, because of his fierce anger on the land. He also knew Elijah may be hunted down and killed by the King.
So God arranged a place of safety for Elijah, as well as providing for his food and water. God commanded the ravens to feed the Prophet. It wasn't steak and eggs, but it was adequate to meet Elijah's needs. The Word tells us that He will always meet our needs, too, if we only trust Him and walk in His ways.
