Firing God As King: Keeping Up With The Middianites Part II
By: Timothy E. Davis "Even so, we still want a King", they said. For we want to be like the Nations around us. He will govern us and lead us in battle. " I Samuel 9:20 (TLB) In Part I of Rejecting God as King: Keeping Up With The Middianites, Israel has decided to give up their direct line to God in order to have an earthly king, who is just a regular man like them.
Samuel the Prophet has just finished telling them all the reasons God opposes them having a king. He will draft their sons for military duty. Some sons will be taken as slaves. Daughter will be taken to cook and make perfume. Crops will be confiscated, and the best of your fields and olive groves will be stolen from you. Still the people wanted a king. So God told Samuel to find them one. So, one day a man named Kish, from the tribe of Benjamin, was led by events the Lord arranged, to meet the Prophet Samuel. Samuel, had been told by the Lord to expect him, and anoint him the King of Israel.
Next, in Part III, we will see the anointing of King Saul. Copyright 2008 Spotless Lamb Ministries, Inc.
