Four Steps to Receiving Christ as Your Personal Savior By: Timothy E. Davis We are all born with a place in our hearts that has been designed for God. Some try to fill that emptiness with sex, some with alcohol, some with illegal drugs, and some through relationships with people. They are all pathetic, pale attempts to fill that empty space in your heart. Only Jesus, the Messiah, can fill that place. The first step to accepting Christ is to admit you need Him. In Romans 3:23, we are told that "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”. Every one of us has sinned. But God loves us anyway. He created you to have fellowship with Him. His love for His children is boundless and limitless. Admit your sins to yourself. So the first step to salvation through Jesus is to realize how much you need Him. The second step is to receive Him. In John 3:16, we are told “that God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. That Son, Jesus, stands at your heart, knocking on the door and waiting to be let in. God has given us the choice to accept Jesus or not to accept Him. He can not save you if you do not let Him in. Decide today, right now, what to do with Jesus. You will never make a more important decision in your life. Don’t think about it until tomorrow, you may not have a tomorrow. Right now, tell God you are ready to claim the salvation Jesus bought for you at the cost of His own life. Admit you are a sinner and tell Him you will follow His ways now. Pray to receive Christ into your heart. The Apostle John writes in John 1:12 that “Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, he gave the right to become children of God.” Receive Jesus now. Become one of God’s children. The third step is to tell someone. Share this good news with someone. You have found a way to have certainty that one day you will be living in heaven and basking in God’s reflected glory, glory the Bible says is so great that heaven doesn’t even need a Sun. You must confess Christ before others as your risen Lord and Savior, if you are to have Him confess you before the Father on Judgment Day, when you stand in the glory of God’s presence and have your life judged. Tell others about your decision for Christ, for “that if you confess with your mouth that “Jesus is Lord” and believe in your heart that God raised home from the dead, you will be saved”. Romans 10:9 The fourth step is to follow up on your decision. If you have prayed through these steps, and did it with a sincere heart, and have promised to turn away from sin, you have just received eternal salvation. It is vitally important that you find a good, Bible preaching church, hopefully one with some small group Bible studies. Many decisions made for Christ die right here and never produce many spiritual results because no one waters them. It is of utmost importance to find a church where you can learn more about Jesus and fellowship with other believers. The decision you made for Christ is not intended to be the end of your walk with God, but the beginning. Follow up on what you have learned about Jesus. Marvel at His love for you. In conclusion, always remember that “for its is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-not by works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9.
