General Joshua's First Battle In the Promised Land
By: Timothy E. Davis
"The Gates of Jericho were kept tightly shut, because the people were afraid of the Israelites, so no one was allowed to go in or out. But the Lord said to Joshua, Jericho and its king and all of its mighty warriors are already defeated, for I have. given them to you." Joshua 6: 1-3 (TLB)
Everyone knows a little about the story of the Battle of Jericho. God told Joshua and the other Israelites to march around the walls of the city once a day for seven days. Don't think of these walled cities like a small castle, rather, as your medium size city. It was an all day walk around the walls. Surely by the sixth day there was some grumbling go on; some were questioning Joshua's sanity.
Joshua had seen God do great signs and wonders So he would not have thought it unusual for God to give commands that he didn't understand, or seemed silly. But He knew the power of his Creator, the same one that had parted the waters of the Red Sea so let the Hebrews pass through, the friend who had let water come from a rock.
Sometimes, God is going to ask us to do some things that may sound silly to us. Like Joshua and his men, we can gain victory by stepping out in faith, no matter what the Father has asked of us. The hard work has already been done, the Lord has gone ahead of us to arrange victory. Jehovah's tactics may often be confusing, but, like Joshua, they will bring us victory if we will just be patient and trust in him.
