Samuel Reminds The People: Rejecting God As King Part IV By: Timothy E. Davis "But when you were afraid of Nahash, the King of Ammon, you came to me and said that you wanted a king to reign over you. But the Lord your God was already your King, for He has always been your King. All right, here is the King you have chosen. Look him over. You have asked for him, and the Lord has answered your request." I Samuel 12:12-13 (TLB) Israel once again had refused to trust in God. When they were threatened by a strong kingdom, instead of trusting in God who had kept the nation safe since they had entered into the Promised Land, they cried out for a "king" to save them, when they already had the true and only King of Kings. When they felt danger and threatened, they did not go to the temple to pray for guidance, they went to the Prophet Samuel to ask for God to appoint a "king, like all the other nations." Before we look upon Israel and say," How could they do that?", Brothers and Sisters, before we try to dig the sliver out the eye of our forebears, let's check out the 2x4 that clouds our vision as a country and as Christians. We have fired God from His job as a teacher in our public schools. He has been kicked out of many American homes. His Commandments, the root of our Nation's Code of Laws, have been removed from courtyards, public squares, and courthouses across this nation, with one hypocritical, glaring exception. That exception would be the U.S. Supreme Court itself. Tomorrow, we will conclude this series, "Rejecting God as King", with a shocking look at another place He has been kicked out of, the Church.
