Seeking Contentment This Side of Heaven.

By: Timothy E. Davis

Your conduct must be free from the love of money and you must be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you and I will never abandon you.”  So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper, and I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?”   Hebrews 13: 5-6 NKJV

Has anyone else ever noticed that people who seek contentment through material things never seem to find any?  They always feel they must have just one more thing before they can find their Nirvana.  If I can just get that new car I want, I would be happy.  I just know when I get promoted to Vice-President at my company, I will be happy.  When I close on my vacation house, the one at Myrtle Beach, I will be content.

For them, there is always someone whose car is newer and nicer than theirs.   For them, there is always a new country club they just have to join.  They are constantly following rainbows, only to find the pot of gold taken by the time they arrive.  But God tells them they are fighting a losing battle.  They will never find true peace and satisfaction in material things of this world, which is destined to be destroyed by fire one day.

Apostle Paul explains how true contentment can never be found in the vain things of this world.  True contentment comes from serving our Master, who changes not, and will never forsake us. True contentment is only available through Jesus Christ.
