"Serving Christ Through Serving Others"
Undercover Christians Part I By: Timothy E. Davis
|
"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. "(Romans 1:16–17)
I am standing next to a man I never met before tonight. I have carefully removed anything that identifies who I really am. I am hoping to buy some marijuana or illegal liquor tonight. My only protection is a surveillance wire being worn by the informant I am working with, which is being monitored by two police officers in an unmarked car, and a .38 pistol hidden on my person. It is vitally important that no one knows I am a Narcotics Detective. If my identity was revealed, I might be fighting for my life. Although I am proud of the work I do, I understand that I do not need a big, gold, badge on my belt announcing that fact at this time.
Jesus Christ, however, has no need for undercover operations or agents. He is recruiting those willing to stand in the gap for the glory of His name and His Kingdom. Why, then, is it so hard to see even a little bit of difference in the way a Christian lives, and the way an unbeliever lives? Why don't more Christians take their faith seriously? The Great Commission calls on every believer to share the Good New that Our Savior is alive! How are we "taking Christ to all nations" when we don't even want anyone to know we follow Our Master?
